Moving to a foreign country...
is it that difficult?

To cut a long story short:
My mum wants to move herself, my sister and I to Vancouver Island, Canada. My sister is only 8, I'm 19, so would be leaving home to go to university anyway and, as my mum is a nurse, it wouldn't be difficult to get the visas sorted. For moral support, my grandparents would probably come along, too.
I'm not afraid of moving away and meeting new people, but I am sure I will miss my friends and the rest of my family, and I was wondering- how much of a culture shock is it likely to be? Languages are the same, weather is similar, my question to others who have migrated, with or without their families, how did you find it? Was it as difficult as it appears on TV?
Gosh, so many questions... :) Thanks guys

Canada is a great place to live.  I'm sure you'll like it a lot.  The Universities here are also great.

gogogogogo. Vancouver is amazingly beautiful and you'll get used to it pretty fast. Think of it has a way to start over. Get something fresh. I'd go in a heartbeat.

Get used to much more conservative attitudes towards most social issues, as well as rather over-the-top patriotism.

i moved from birmingham to australia when i was 13 (18 now)

at first it was a bit of a shock, like it took me about a year to really adjust to everything, then again i take a while to get changes thru my head, so that probly didnt help :D

but after a while it becomes home, i've picked up the accent, and apart from the whole traditional ties n all that i feel just as Australian as eveyone else even though i know im not really..

it tales a while but eventually you'll get used to it. Australia, Canada, America and the UK all have pretty similar cultures and all that so youll be alright ;-)

I am sure everything will work out for you and your family in Canada. :) The United States and Canada, for example, have pretty much the same culture. I do not think moving to Canada from the UK will be a big change for you. Have fun with the exchange rate, though. ;)
