I think he believes in the Catholic God

Then I suggest he calls himself a hypocrite.

Well I believe the Buddhists would consider him a "Christian Buddhist" simple as that.

Well he just told me that he was raised up by Catholic tradition. But now he doesn't like going to mass, breaks rules, he doesn't really follow their ways anymore. Or at least he says he doesn't want to.

It's feasible. One can be religiously Christian and philosophically Buddhist.

He clearly doesn't believe in God as described by Catholicism, so what's the problem?

But he still claims he does. Just that instead of the Catholic ways, he wants to follow the Buddhist guidelines but not really worship Buddha as his God

So he's knowingly choosing a lifestyle that will result in Hell, just because church is boring?

You really think he's going to hell just for that?

If ye love me, keep my commandments.

He's choosing to ignore God's word, and live a sinful lifestyle. I'm no theologian, but his prospects don't look good to me.

If he believes in the Catholic God but follows the practices of a "false religion" then he's setting himself up for failure, as SpM points out.  Buddhism and Christianity are incompatible in that both cannot be followed fully simultaneously.
